The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) undertakes a pivotal project for the construction and completion of a road connecting Kuala Terengganu Airport to Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC). This ambitious project, categorized under Package 1A, primarily focuses on Coastal Protection Works, encompassing sand filling, revetment construction, and seawall development.

Project Details:

  • Location: The project is situated in Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC), Terengganu, Malaysia. This coastal region is of great importance for both infrastructure and environmental preservation.

  • Scope: The core scope of this project involves comprehensive Coastal Protection Works, including sand filling, revetment construction, and the establishment of a seawall. These measures aim to safeguard the coastline against erosion and ensure road infrastructure resilience.

Quantitative Highlights:

  • Sand Works: An impressive volume of 250,000 cubic meters of sand is meticulously placed to reshape and fortify the coastline, enhancing its resilience.

  • Geofabric Works: A substantial area of 19,228 square meters is covered with geofabric, a critical element in stabilizing the reclamation area and enhancing its longevity.

  • Rock Works: Approximately 38,981 cubic meters of rock are employed to construct revetments, providing protection against wave action and coastal erosion.

  • Seawall Works: A seawall extending over 1,060 meters is erected to provide structural stability and protect the reclamation area from the forces of the sea.

Construction Period: The project officially commenced on September 23, 2019, and is anticipated to reach completion on August 10, 2020, spanning nearly 11 months. This timeline underscores the extensive planning and execution required for such a substantial coastal protection initiative.

ECERDC’s involvement in this project exemplifies their commitment to regional development and coastal resilience. By implementing comprehensive Coastal Protection Works, the project ensures the safeguarding of both the newly constructed road and the coastal environment.
